Majnu Ka Tilla or MKT as it is widely famous among the Delhi University Students is a Tibetan Settlement in north Delhi. It was developed in the 1960s to accommodate the Tibetan refugees. With its narrow lanes, colourful Tibetan flags, monasteries, Buddhist temples, affordable shops and eateries MKT is a popular destination among DU Students and foreign tourists.
Prior to being a Tibetan settlement, MKT was a mound that became the meeting ground for Iranian Sufi mystic Abdullah, nicknamed Majnu and Guru Nanak. Later a Gurudwara was built here to commemorate this bond. Today it is one of the oldest extant gurudwaras in Delhi named after the Iranian saint, Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tilla.
