Nizamuddin Food Walk: Flavours of a Living Heritage

Special Tour 1.5-2 hour
Nizamuddin West, New Delhi, Delhi, India Delhi Tour Guide: City Explorer®

The narrow lanes, vibrant markets, historic structures, and celebrated food traditions make the medieval Nizamuddin Basti one of Delhi’s most distinctive neighbourhoods. Historically known as Ghiyaspur, the area reflects a rich blend of culture, community life, and culinary heritage that continues to thrive in its everyday rhythms.

This walk explores the food landscape of Nizamuddin Basti—where recipes, flavours, and local traditions have been passed down through generations. As you move through the lanes, you will encounter a diverse and lively community alongside some of the city’s most iconic eateries.

The neighbourhood is widely known for its rich non-vegetarian cuisine and street food culture. From the indulgent Dahi Butter Chicken, Seekh Kababs, and Roomali Roti at Kit Care Kabab Corner, to the comforting Moradabadi-style Biryani, slow-cooked Nihari with Khameeri Roti, and favourites like Chicken Tikka, Shami Kabab, and Mutton preparations across local establishments—each stop reflects the culinary identity of the area.

For the main course, local kitchens serve dishes such as Karahi Chicken, Tangdi Kabab, and Chicken Korma. The experience concludes on a sweet note with traditional desserts like Imarti and Kheer, followed by a classic paan selection from nearby stalls.

This walk is designed as a cultural and culinary exploration of the Nizamuddin neighbourhood. Participants engage with local food traditions, community spaces, and everyday life that define the basti.
