Lodhi Gardens is one of the few places in Delhi which beautifully blend the past and the present. In this green space, you can discover the medieval tombs of Sayyids and Lodhis, while the beautiful garden was actually constructed and curated by the British.

The Lodhi Gardens was once known as the “Lady Wellingdon Park”, as it was a tribute commissioned by the then Viceroy for his wife, Lady Wellingdon. To honor the legacy of India’s passed, the name was changed to Lodhi Gardens, after the modifications made by J. A. Stein.

The Gardens houses within a tomb of one of the Sayyid rulers, one of the biggest domes to be constructed in the 14th century, the Bada Gumbad, which has a beautiful mosque attached to it, Sheesh Mahal that was studded with mirror-work once upon a time, and the enclosed tomb of Sikandar Lodhi, one of the greatest Lodhi rulers. Explore the lesser-known facts and anecdotes about the Sayyids and Lodhis, who may not have built a city after them but left a legacy of beautiful tombs behind.

Take a leisurely walk in the early morning of the day to have an informative outdoor learning experience, and not have to deal with the July sun. You will be back home with wonderful anecdotes and information by the time the sun comes up.
