Sufism or Taṣawwuf is a doctrine of Islamic mysticism that propagates “love & peace”. It is associated with Sufis. In India it began with the advent of Muslim rule. The Mystical side of Delhi can be experienced at the Dargah of Hazrat Nizam-ud-din Auliya located close to Humayun’s Tomb on Mathura Road. Today Nizam-ud-din is a crowded locality in west area of Delhi. It is cluttered by thousands of people, residential buildings and markets that make it lively and colourful.
The Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is the mausoleum of Hazrat Khwaja Syed Nizamuddin Auliya (1238-1325), a Sufi saint of Chisti order. The site is significant as it houses the tombs of the famous poet Amir Khusro and Mughal Princess Jehan Ara Begum along with Inayat Khan’s tomb. Although a Muslim shrine, the Dargah receives diverse visitors belonging to Hindu, Christian and Sikh faith. For the Sufis helping and serving the needs brought blessings and rehmat from Allah. Offer chaadars and flowers at the shrine of Nizamudin Auliya and make generous donations at the Dargah for the unprivileged while you walk through this medieval shrine. You may also spend the evening in the Dargah complex to get enchanted and mesmerised by the “Rockstar movie” style Qawwali experience. Qawwalis are performed here every day between 6:30pm-8:00pm and 8:45pm-10:00pm.
