Hauz Khas village is a beautiful mélange of the urban and the medieval, where you get to experience the modern lifestyle of the people in the social cafes, around the medieval tombs. There is a line of fashionable designer boutiques, social cafes, fancy restaurants, and art workshops that lies around the Royal Reservoir, known as the Hauz-e-Alai.
The Hauz Khas area encloses structures which are an Islamic seminary, a mosque, a tomb and pavilions built around an urban village that actually traces its history back to the 13th century of the Delhi Sultanate. Even the people who stay here, or visit it Delhi, know how it was a part of the history of the Delhi Sultanate. The tank known as Hauz-e-Alai is named after Alauddin Khilji, who commissioned the tank. It was Feroz Shah Tughlak who decided to desilt it later which made the water accessible to the people, after which it came to be known as the Royal Tank or Hauz Khas.
