Known for his deep-philosophical love poetry, Ghalib was a famous Persian-Urdu poet in the court of Bhadur shah Zafar II. He was born as Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan on December 27, 1979 in a Turkish aristocratic family in Agra. Ghalib started writing at the age of 11 and became popular with his association with the Mughals. His ghazals and shers became so influential and popular that Bhadur shah Zafar II bestowed the title, Dabir-ul-Mulk and Najm-ud-Daula on Ghalib. He wrote under the pen name Ghalib and Asad.
Ghalib walk lets you visit the times of Ghalib by visiting his Haveli located in Qasim Jan Gali, Ballimara, Old Delhi. It was the residence of Ghalib after he moved to Delhi in the 19th century. Today preserved in the form of a memorial museum, Ghalib Haveli is a sure visit for Poetry, Ghazal and Sher fans. The museum has curated his books and hand written poetry that you can look at. Ghalib’s life-size portrait with a hookah will aid you to revisit the times of literary wonders. The walls of the Haveli with portraits of Ghalib and other contemporary poets along with framed couplets hung on the side walls provides insight into the life lifestyle of Ghalib and Mughal architecture.
